Did you forget someone on your Christmas list? Or did you struggle to find the right gift for your foodie friends and family this year? Well, here’s a delicious idea that’s also economical and attractive! (And that you can give ANY time of year!)
First, you’ll need some empty spice jars. Although we try to buy spices in bulk and reuse the jars, it’s not always possible. Sometimes we can’t find the specific spice in the bulk section, or we’re not able to locate a store with bulk spices at all. So, when we buy a jar of herbs or spices to replace an empty one, we save the old jar. We have a nice out-of-the-way shelf in our cabinet that’s perfect:
We wash them and remove the labels when we want to repurpose them:
Now we’re ready to fill them with one of our favorite spice blends–garam masala. If you’ve stocked your pantry with our recommended spices, you’ll be all set. Simply follow our recipe for Garam Masala Spice Blend. Mix the spices in a small bowl.
Use a spoon to transfer it to the jar. (However, a funnel makes the job easier and potentially less messy.)
We bought these cute little chalkboard labels (affiliate link used) and a liquid chalk marker.
They come in different shapes and sizes, so you can choose the one that works perfectly for your jar shape. Write the name and date of the spice blend, and add your name or other information. We tied a festive ribbon around our jar, and voilá–our gift is ready to give!
P.S. Don’t forget to cover up any writing on the lid.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
