How to Make Your Own Brown Sugar

Have you ever been in the middle of making cookie dough before discovering that somebody used up all of the brown sugar without telling you? Or maybe that same someone didn’t close the package well and the brown sugar dried up into a rock-hard chunk? Maybe that someone was you?

Yes, sometimes that someone has been one of us, and it’s so annoying! No one wants to take off their apron, wash their hands and make an unexpected trip to the grocery store just to pick up one item.

Next time, don’t go to the store. Make your own–it’s easy! For every 1/2 cup of brown sugar you need, use 1/2 cup white sugar and 1 tablespoon molasses. After all, brown sugar is simply white sugar with some molasses added back.

That’s it! Really! In fact, you probably don’t even need to buy brown sugar as long as you have the other two items. However, we still keep it on hand for convenience.
