Salad Spinner

June 16, 2016 by Finite Foodie

“Rebecca, Greg and I did not agree on the necessity of owning a salad spinner, since they tend to buy pre-washed greens, which saves time (but not money). However, if you’re a big salad-eater, I think you’ll be very happy you have one.” ~ Bobbi

The more salad you eat, the more you’ll be drawn to fresh greens from the farmers market or your backyard garden, and those will need to be washed and dried. A good salad spinner quickly and effectively removes excess the water. We also use a spinner for herbs and salad greens that are typically not pre-washed, like Bibb lettuce and romaine hearts.

The inside basket of the spinner can also double as a colander! Use it for rinsing canned beans or draining spaghetti if your colander is not available.

Salad spinners are easy to use. Just rinse your greens in the inside basket:

Spin until mostly dry:

Pour out the water that has accumulated in the outer shell and spin a second time if desired.

You’ll now have clean, dry greens for your salad!

3. To inspire you with healthful, easy recipes.

When we simmer a chicken in water (see our recipe for Slow Cooked Chicken) we end up with a pot full of rather bland chicken broth. No problem! Once we’ve removed the meat, we add the carcass back to the broth, throw in some vegetables and make a rich and complex bone broth. You can…
