Why do you need two thermometers?

Although some people have never owned a meat thermometer or an oven thermometer, we still felt they were important enough to include on our Essentials list. Of course, if you’re a vegetarian a meat thermometer is unnecessary. However, anyone who wants to use their oven should spend $10 or even less for an oven thermometer. We have all lived in various houses and apartments, and each time the ovens (whether new or old, gas or electric) have not run true to the indicated temperature.

  1. Meat thermometer – Use a meat thermometer to make sure meats like chicken, beef and pork are done and have been heated enough to kill bacteria. (Highly recommended if you cook meats.)
  2. Oven thermometer –Buy an inexpensive oven thermometer to make sure your oven is the correct temperature. This will save you much time and money, since you’ll be able to more accurately follow the recipe cook times. (Highly recommended if you bake, or cook anything in the oven.)
