Hibiscus Tea

“We had something similar in Costa Rica. It was so refreshing I had to recreate it at home. This is very close, and it’s packed with healthful antioxidants too!”  ~ Bobbi If you can’t find a fresh stevia plant or the dried leaves, simply leave them out and lightly sweeten the tea when it’s done,…

Zucchini Medley

August 18, 2016 by Finite Foodie Leave a Comment

Don’t let the simplicity of this dish fool you. It may be simple, but the taste is thoroughly delicious. And, there’s the added bonus of very little clean up! It will be easier to toss everything in a bowl first, but sometimes we place it all directly into the baking dish and toss there. See Variations below for turning this into a vegetarian meal, with polenta or quinoa.

Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich

August 11, 2016 by Finite Foodie Leave a Comment

I’d say a grilled cheese sandwich is my favorite comfort food. When served with a bowl of tomato soup, I’m instantly transported back to my childhood and good memories of my mom’s tender loving care. This was my classic “sick” meal, and it never failed to make me feel better. ~ Bobbi Although many diners…

Classic (but spiced up) Hamburgers

August 11, 2016 by Finite Foodie Leave a Comment

“When I was growing up, my grandfather raised cattle for beef. I spent many summers and holidays in the back of his pickup riding out to the pastures where they roamed. I have no idea how many acres he leased, but it could take half an hour to find the cattle and round them up….

Peach Batter Cobbler with Ginger

August 4, 2016 by Finite Foodie Leave a Comment

“My grandmother made the best peach cobblers. It was one of her hallmark desserts. She topped juicy peaches with strips of the most delicate pastry you could imagine and sprinkled sugar all over the top for a glittery finish. My mouth is watering, just thinking about it! “Although Mom-ma, as we called her, could whip…

Sweet Balsamic Reduction

July 28, 2016 by Finite Foodie Leave a Comment

A sweetened balsamic reduction compliments and dresses up many types of fruit. Honey tempers the tartness of vinegar, creating a well balanced reduction. Drizzle some over cantaloupe, honeydew melon, strawberries, or kiwi for example, or use with extra virgin olive oil on a green salad (with or without fruit). Just warn your guests that it…

HOW TO SET UP YOUR FIRST KITCHEN (Click on photo to read more.)

KITCHEN ESSENTIALS

Our concept for the Finite Foodie® has these simple goals in mind —

1. To provide simple, clear steps for setting up your first, probably small kitchen with a minimal amount of equipment and investment.

2. To teach you cooking basics,  terminology and terms, and common conversions and equivalents.

3. To inspire you with healthful, easy recipes.

When we simmer a chicken in water (see our recipe for Slow Cooked Chicken) we end up with a pot full of rather bland chicken broth. No problem! Once we’ve removed the meat, we add the carcass back to the broth, throw in some vegetables and make a rich and complex bone broth. You can…
