These are so easy to make, you’ll find any excuse to serve them! They’re perfect for football season, birthday parties, holidays (especially Chinese New Year) or just to have around the house.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon Chinese 5-spice
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 cups raw peanuts (with or without skin)
  • 1 cup raw cashews (whole or pieces)
  • salt (kosher or coarse ground recommended)

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 275 °F. Spray oil onto a rimmed baking sheet, or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mix sugar and 5-spice in a large bowl. Set aside.
  3. Place egg white in a medium bowl and beat with a whisk (or fork) until foamy. Add nuts to the egg white and stir to coat.
  4. Pour nuts into the sugar and spice mixture and stir well. Spread evenly on baking sheet and sprinkle salt over them. Bake 40 to 50 minutes.
  5. Cool slightly (about 10 minutes), then break apart and serve. Store in an airtight container after completely cooled, if there’s any left!
